William Henry Studio Kestrel Singe B09 2.06" Button Lock Folder / Titanium & Blue Sapphires / Black ZDP-189
The Kestrel 'Singe' features a light and resilient anodized frame and black pocket clip in aerospace grade titanium. The blade is in extra strong ZDP-189 core steel in patterned black; the one-hand button lock and the thumb stud are set with spinel gemstones. The Kestrel is a compact but versatile folder that works and presents beautifully in any situation; the design, which offers a deep finger groove at the intersection between the handle and blade, makes this knife remarkably comfortable in the hand while being very small and easy to carry. The ‘Singe’ is an elegant and distinctive personality statement to be worn and used for a lifetime.
TITANIUM
Titanium is a low density, strong, lustrous, corrosion-resistant (including sea water, aqua regia and chlorine) metal with a silver color.
It was discovered in Great Britain by William Gregor in 1791, and named by Martin Heinrich Klaproth for the Titans of Greek mythology
William Henry uses only aerospace-grade titanium alloy for our frames, clips, and micro-fasteners. Called 6Al/4V, it is titanium with a little aluminum and vanadium added in for additional toughness and tensile strength.
SPINEL
Natural spinel is a gemstone that has become a great favorite with gem dealers and gem collectors; one might even say that spinel is for gemstone connoisseurs only.
It is a hard glassy mineral occurring as octahedral crystals of variable color and consisting chiefly of magnesium and aluminum oxides.
Some spinels are among the most famous gemstones in the world: among them are the Black Prince's Ruby and the "Timur Ruby" in the British Crown Jewels, and the "Côte de Bretagne", formerly from the French Crown jewels.
ZDP-189
William Henry worked closely with partners in Japan to develop a laminate that captures a 'core' center layer ofZDP-189 (HRC 67) within softer layers of 420J2 stainlesssteel for our blades. The ZDP creates the razor sharp edge, while the softer layers offer tensile strength and support. The layers are revealed in heat treating and polishing, showing an elegant seam in the blade that mimics the traditional 'temper lines' seen on Samurai swords.
Black Coated ZDP-189
Black (Tungsten DLC coating). This is a surface coating that has a molecular bond with the ZDP blade. The coating has a hardness of about 88 HRC, even tougher than our blade steel, and wears beautifully over time and use.
