The Gränsfors Large Straight Adze is an old Scandinavian axe design with a transverse edge. It is perhaps best described as ‘a chisel you can chop with’. The adze has a wide range of applications. It can be used to square off logs and planks to create a smooth surface, to shape beams and purlins, and to form ribs for boats. The Large Straight Adze comes into its own when the user is standing over the log and chopping between his legs. The user can adjust his arms’ length to control the cutting and thus create an extremely smooth surface.
